Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

April 9, 2025

The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, or BVRT, is an off-road adventure trail that follows the disused Brisbane Valley rail line from Wulkuraka, west of Ipswich, to Yarraman, west of Kilcoy. The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail provides walkers, bike riders and horse riders with a unique opportunity to experience the diverse rural landscape of the Brisbane Valley mixed with heritage-listed and historic sites while passing through some of Queensland's most unique country towns. With the final link between Toogoolawah and Moore completed in 2018, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is the longest rail trail in Australia, spanning 161km.

If you are interested in the BVRT I highly recommend Out There Cycling (https://outtherecycling.com.au/). I just completed their 2 night, 3 day BVRT cycling tour (April 1 - 3, 2025) from Yarraman to the Trail Head at Wulkura (north Ipswich). The tour was well organized with good, clean accommodation along the trail at Linville and Esk. An added bonus was the Specialized MTB Tero 03 e-bikes we hired which easily got us out of some very steep embankments and flooded creeks.

On the way we saw a few skittish wallabies and quite a number of curious grey kangaroos. A highlight for me was the sight of Apostle birds at Linville: so called as they tend to feed and travel together in groups of around twelve.

By the way country towns have really upped their game when it comes to coffee. Even the local "servos" serve great flat whites and cappuccinos.

In summary: 5 stars for Out There Cycling. Call Shane or Colleen for an authentic Australian MTB bush adventure.
